Yucaipa’s Bryant Street Baptist Church Converts from Incandescent

To Environmentally-Friendly LED Lighting for Energy Cost Savings

YUCAIPA, CA – Gallium LED Lighting Systems, developer and leading-edge provider of lighting energy optimization services, announced the completion of an energy efficient lighting upgrade for Bryant Street Baptist Church in Yucaipa. The installation of the eco-friendly engineered lighting systems has drastically reduced lighting maintenance costs, and delivers 84% energy cost savings.

The rapidly expanding LED industry is the new era in lighting technology. Light emitting diodes (LED) are significantly more efficient than either incandescent or compact

fluorescents, last up to four times as long, are safer with no lead or mercury, and no harmful emissions like ultraviolet rays. An important LED component is Gallium Nitride, a rare, soft silvery metal that’s used as a semiconductor. LEDs radiate very little heat, providing a high level of comfort and delivers unprecedented lumen output.

“We are proud to be at the forefront of a rapidly expanding eco-friendly industry,” said Jeff Baxter, Director of Business Development, Gallium Lighting Systems. “We work with agencies, architects, building engineers, lighting designers, electrical contractors, facility managers and designers to provide energy efficient LED lighting products that allow for creative designs in a variety of locations and applications. As this new technology evolves, architects are free to use their imagination to bring a fresh new look and expression to their designs.”

Bryant Street Baptist Church in Yucaipa recently deployed a Gallium LED Lighting System in its 40 year old, 4,800 square-foot Worship Center. Previous fixtures lighting the Main Hall were 3 foot cylindrical, multi-incandescent-light pendants suspended from the 20 foot ceiling by chain. There were 16 such fixtures, each having a 200 watt bulb on the bottom circuit, and three – 100 watt bulbs on the top circuit. Normal usage during services was for all lights to be on in order to produce 11 to 12 foot candles of light at reading level. At 500 watts per fixture, that’s an energy consumption rate of 8,000 watts per hour.

The new Gallium fixtures have a sleeker, more contemporary look and are designed to blend the light source into the overall aesthetic of the structure, without standing out. The surface mounted 2 foot square fixtures contain four Gallium GS6 modules, each of which require only 20 watts, for a total of 80 watts per fixture. With all lights running at full capacity the energy consumption rate is 1,280 watts per hour, yet they produce an average of 30 foot candles of light at reading level (three times the level produced by the previous light fixtures). Another benefit realized with the Gallium LED Light System is the absence of “lighting hum,” the static noise picked up by sound systems in many auditoriums when lights are turned on or dimmed. Because the Gallium fixtures are made with solid state circuitry, all of the fixtures are “cleanly dimmable.” This means they can be dimmed to match the mood requirements of various events, yet will not emit the static background noise which is so familiar with incandescent arrays or ballast-based fluorescent lighting systems. “Being very cost conscious, we tried to retrofit the original fixtures with the screw-in type Compact Fluorescent Light (CFL) replacement bulbs,” said Jerry Campbell, former Chairman of Trustees, “But they threw so much static noise into our sound system, we had to immediately remove them and put the incandescent bulbs back in the original fixtures.”

“We undertook the project because we wanted to bring a more contemporary look to our Worship Center. The Gallium Lighting System produces a brighter, cleaner looking light and is delivering dramatic cost savings by decreasing our energy usage.”, said Frank Kingsley, Senior Pastor of Bryant Street Baptist Church. “In addition to the cost savings, numerous church members have complimented us on the enhanced look of the building as well as the overall lighting quality. The Gallium Lighting System helps us reduce our monthly costs, and it’s a better long-term solution for our environment. That’s exciting!”

“The Bryant Street Baptist Church installation is a terrific local story that brings the benefits of Gallium Lighting Systems ‘to light!”, said Jerry Keith, CEO, Gallium Lighting Systems. “I’m delighted about the completion of this important project. We look forward to working with many facilities like churches, schools, community centers, retail stores to provide similar cost-cutting, clean-tech solutions.”

Gallium Lighting may reduce lighting-related expenses up to 90% with the elimination of maintenance, re-lamping, and disposal costs associated with traditional lighting alternatives, and transforms lighting into a manageable asset to improve efficiency with a 25-30 year life span. Gallium’s LED light fixtures present a fresh new aesthetic appeal to conventional lighting, and their award-winning products meet or exceed Underwriters Laboratory (UL) and Energy Star testing and are backed by a 5-year warranty.

Fayetteville, GA – February 10, 2011 –Gallium Lighting, LLC, announced today it has accepted an inaugural position on the Industry Advisory Board for the Center for Ubiquitous Communication by Light (UC-Light Center) based at the University of California, Riverside’s Bourns College of Engineering.

Gallium Lighting was one of the first companies to introduce LED Downlighting Fixtures to the commercial world. They have won awards for their Energy Star rated products and produce some of the most energy efficient, environmentally friendly commercial downlights on the market today. By joining together with the research efforts of the UC-Light Center, Gallium Lighting continues their efforts to remain on the leading edge of development for commercial applications using advanced LED lighting technologies.

About the UC-Light Center

Established to stimulate new concepts and new economic opportunities in wireless communication, the center is funded by the University of California’s Multicampus Research Program and Initiatives and engages faculty from UC Riverside, UC Berkeley, UC Davis, UC Merced, and Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. In collaboration with companies in multiple industries, the center will develop visible light communication (VLC) concepts that can lead to new technologies, systems and services for indoor and outdoor wireless data transmission, geolocation, and tracking using visible lights.

The UC-Light Center’s mission is to develop the VLC technologies necessary for making wireless communication by light commercially successful. At the enabling technology level, they are developing concepts for signaling and networks using light-emitting diodes (LEDs), which increasingly are being used for indoor and outdoor lighting and signage. Specific applications already targeted for development include indoor wireless networking and navigation in complex environments, hospital asset management, and automobile and traffic control.

“PDAs, HDTV, information kiosks, computers and laptops all can be interconnected wirelessly through visible light,” said Daniel Xu, professor of electrical engineering at the Bourns College of Engineering, principal investigator and Director of the new research center. “The visible light spectrum is several orders of magnitude larger than the crowded radio frequency (RF) spectrum, and thus has huge potential for low cost and high data rate communication.”

“Imagine the enormous potential for commercial, medical, educational and public safety applications as a result of everyday LED lighting sources, both inside and outside of building structures, having the ability to intelligently communicate” said Gordon Campbell, director of business development for Gallium Lighting, LLC and CEO of Cybertime Network Communications. “You could actually use your laptop, notebook, cell phone, or a variety other data communications devices in sensitive venues such as hospitals without fear of Radio Frequency based interference with critical medical equipment. It would also make functions like airport ground communications much easier to manage if administrative, security and resident vendor traffic was off-loaded to an LED light source based network rather than the already congested RF signals that support existing cellular, data, and voice communications.

New LED Lighting Fixture Family Poised to Make Fluorescent Lighting Obsolete

Fayetteville, GA – January 20, 2010 – Gallium Lighting introduces an ultra-efficient LED downlight that delivers almost 1,400 lumens while consuming less than 20 watts, which corresponds to an outstanding system efficacy of 72 lumens per watt. By comparison, a typical 16-cell luminaire with standard T-8 fluorescent tubes has a system efficacy of only 45 lumens per watt.

An array of high-output Gallium GS6-CXPG fixtures on a 6’ x 8’ grid generally provides more than 30 footcandles while consuming only 0.4 watts per square foot, demonstrating that LED lighting is now a compelling solution for general illumination in mainstream applications.

In addition to the energy saving benefits, LED lighting substantially reduces maintenance costs and eliminates the hazardous mercury found in fluorescent tubes. The GS6-CXPG series is ideal for green buildings, especially schools, hospitals, offices, transportation hubs and retail spaces.

Fayetteville, GA – September 23, 2009 – Gallium Lighting announces an upgrade to its standard GS6-X series that will provide even more bang for the buck. The Gallium GS6-X high performance architectural LED downlight now provides more lumens for fewer dollars. In addition, the LEDs are now rated for 50,000 hours of operation with a three year limited warranty.

To recap the entire Gallium product line:

The highly affordable GS6-X series makes compact fluorescent downlights completely obsolete, with higher efficiency and much lower maintenance.

The GS6-CXRE series features super efficient Cree XRE LEDs, providing up to 65 fixture lumens per wall plug watt and a typical payback of 5 years relative to a comparable compact fluorescent downlight.

The GS6-NS6 series provides outstanding color rendering with a CRI of 92.

The GS6 family was recognized by the Department of Energy’s 2009 Next Generation Luminaires Design Competition – for more information, see http://www.ngldc.org/08/winners/recognized_GS6.stm

Also, Gallium products often qualify for economic stimulus programs. In some cases, complete LED lighting upgrades can be 100% funded by government stimulus programs. If you can find an inefficient lighting installation and a building owner interested in saving money, we can help with the paperwork.

Gallium Lighting is committed to providing high-performance LED lighting at competitive prices to make it even easier to go green.

Gallium Sets New Standard For LED Downlight Performance

New Product Family Featuring Cree’s XLamp XR-E LED Provides 65 Lumens Per Watt System Efficacy

Fayetteville, GA – March 6, 2008 – Gallium Lighting announces the introduction of a high-performance LED downlight featuring the Cree XLamp XR-E LED. The Gallium GS6-CXRE luminaire delivers more than 1,300 lumens while reducing energy consumption by up to 60% relative to comparable compact fluorescent downlights.

Gallium’s advanced GS6 fixture was developed specifically for high-performance white LEDs. It features 1.5” (38mm) spacing between LEDs and a heavy-duty heat dissipation system to maximize efficiency and LED life, and a 45º shielding angle to maximize visual comfort. With the XR-E LED, the GS6 downlight fixture now achieves a total luminaire efficacy of up to 65 lumens per watt.

“LED technology is advancing at an astonishing rate,” said Keith Bahde, Ph.D., President of Gallium Lighting. “In the last twelve months, we have been able to boost the light output of our GS6 luminaire by 49%, while reducing the energy consumption by 18%. It can now provide more light than most 6-inch 32-watt compact fluorescent downlights while consuming only about half as much energy. We can now demonstrate a three-year payback in many applications.”

Gallium Lighting is a leading manufacturer of architectural LED downlighting for commercial buildings and high-end residences.

Breakthrough LED Technology Surpasses Compact Fluorescent Efficiency

Fayetteville, GA – August 27, 2007 – Gallium Lighting announces the introduction of the first commercial LED downlight featuring the Lumileds Rebel LED.

The Rebel LED provides an efficacy of up to 91 lumens per watt, which is 20% higher than the most efficient compact fluorescent lamps. Because Rebel LEDs have a hemispherical light distribution, the optical efficiency of an LED downlight is typically higher than a comparable compact fluorescent downlight. Independent Testing Laboratories, Inc recently verified that Gallium’s GS6 downlight can deliver more than 1,000 lumens while consuming only 21W, which is almost twice the efficacy of a comparable compact fluorescent downlight.

The Rebel LED also has a rated life of 50,000 hours, which is four times the life of compact fluorescent lamps. When operated during normal business hours, Rebel LEDs have a service life of 25 years.

“Since LEDs contain no mercury, our products have always been greener than compact fluorescent luminaires,” said Keith Bahde, Ph.D., President of Gallium Lighting. “With the latest generation of LEDs, we now offer substantial energy savings as well. Coupled with the maintenance cost savings, LED lighting provides an attractive return on investment. LEDs now outperform compact fluorescent in every respect.”

Gallium Lighting is a leading manufacturer of architectural LED downlighting for commercial buildings and high-end residences.
